Sept. 6: Nina Persson of The Swedish band The Cardigans is 36 today.


The Cardigans was a Swedish band formed in the town of Jönköping in October 1992.


Nina Persson is the lead singer and lyricist. She has also worked as a solo artist, releasing two albums. She has also worked with rock group Sparklehorse and is a member of The Cake Sale collective, which released an eponymously titled album in 2006 to raise money for the charity Oxfam Ireland and the Ireland Make Trade Fair campaign.


The Cardigans debut album Emmerdale (1994) gave them a solid base in Sweden as well as overseas, especially in Japan. Their second album Life (1995), did even better outsife of Sweden.


The band is best known for their hit singles "Erase/Rewind" and "My Favourite Game" from the album Gran Turismo (1998) and "Lovefool" from the album First Band on the Moon (1996). "First Band..." is part of the soundtrack of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet..


Persson made her acting debut in the movie Om Gud vill which was released in 2006.
